1.Application Process for Science Tokyo On-Campus “Tech Tech Nursery” (“Nursery”)

Note for short-term visitors (1–3 months) from overseas:
Children of short-term visitors such as researchers invited from overseas or international students, etc. are accepted as “privately admitted children” if there are difficulties in applying for the Approval of Necessity of Childcare Assistance under the Comprehensive Support System for Children and Child-Rearing (eligibility class 3) at their municipality. ① Read and understand about the Nursery.

Before applying for the Nursery, you are requested to read carefully and understand the mission and objectives, the overview, the eligibility, and other related important notes in this website.

② Submit the application form for approval of necessity of childcare assistance for approval to your local municipality.

③ Submit the application form for daycare center admission/switching to your local municipality.

A copy of this application form must be provided as attachment (b) when applying for the Nursery.

– Please note that in many municipalities, this application is combined with the Application for Necessity of Childcare as one document.

(Short-term visitors (1–3 months) from overseas do not need to submit a copy of the application form.)

– Please find out the due date for the application in advance. (The due date is around the 10th of the previous month of the enrollment in many municipalities.)

④ Receive the certification of necessity of childcare from your local municipality.

A copy of the certification must be provided as attachment (a) when applying for the Nursery.

⑤ Receive the admission decision notification from your local municipality.

A copy of the notification must be provided as attachment (b) when applying for the Nursery.

– The final decision of your local municipality must be reported to the Tech Tech Nursery Committee (“Committee”). You will be notified of the final decision via telephone or in writing (usually around 20th of each month).

⑥ Attend the information session by the daycare service provider of the Nursery.

Please sign or stamp your seal on the application for the Nursery to confirm you understand the information provided at the session.

Please contact the Committee at childcare@jim.titech.ac.jp for scheduling the session as soon as the application to your local municipality has been completed (②③ above). It is usually scheduled to be held between 10th and 20th of the month preceding the start date.

⑦ Submit the application for the Nursery to the Committee together with attachments (a) and (b). Due date: 20th of the previous month of the enrollment. (As for the April 11, 2021 enrollment, the due date is March 11, 2021)

– Please note that you must enclose the completed form together with attachments (a) and (b) in the same envelope and send it for the attention of the Committee by mail or campus mail. Short-term visitors who stay less than 3 months are not required to provide the attachment (b).

– The application for the Nursery is a 10-page document. Please print all pages and staple them together.

– If you have not received some of the above documents by the due date, please send all the documents you have and state the status in the form.

⑧ Applicants will be informed by the Committee of the receipt of the application package and the availability status.

After assessing the application documents, the Institute will inform applicants by email or phone whether or not the documents have been accepted and confirm availability status.

↓ A spot is available for the requested start date.↓

⑨ Receive approval of admission to the Nursery from the Committee, if availability is confirmed, two weeks before your requested start date. 

The Institute will provide information below on the process to follow before the first day at the Nursery.1. Child sees the Nursery’s physician for a pre-admission medical exam.
2. Parent and child visit the Nursery for a meeting
3. Child starts the first day at the Nursery after signing the agreement.

Attachment (Supporting documents)

(a) A copy of the certification of the Approval of Necessity of Childcare Assistance under the Comprehensive Support System for Children and Child-Rearing (eligibility class 3 and the standard time service)

Note:

  • If you do not receive the certificate of approval by the due date, please report the Committee and submit
    Decision of the final screening must be provided if the applicant applied for April .
  • Short-term visitors (1–3 months) from overseas, etc. do not need to submit a copy of this certification  
    (a) if their children are accepted as “privately admitted children” due to difficulty in applying for this approval. Please submit alternative documents as instructed by the Committee.

(b) A copy of the application for daycare center admission/switching submitted to the applicant’s local municipality and a copy of the non-acceptance notice received from the municipality.

  • (b) is not required for short-term visitors (1–3 months).

  • If the applicant was verbally notified of non-acceptance by phone, etc., a memo regarding the notification can be submitted. A copy of the non-acceptance notice must be submitted as soon as it is received from the local municipality as required for enrollment.
  • If the Institute finds that the information in the application form for daycare center admission was manipulated to avoid being accepted by the local municipality If the Institute finds that the information in the application form for daycare center admission was manipulated to avoid being accepted by the local municipality improper conduct, and applications from the applicant will no longer be accepted. Ota City residents must include the Nursery as one of the choices for enrollment in the local municipality’s application process.
  • To secure a spot for long-term use, the applicant must resubmit the application for daycare center admission/switching to the local municipality after completing enrollment in the Nursery.
  • Status of the applicant’s spouse and parents will be confirmed by a copy of the application form of the Approval of Necessity of Childcare Assistance. The applicant will be asked to submit other documents as needed.   

3. Contact Information

  • Please send application documents to the Committee by regular or campus mail. In case of urgency, email submissions can be tentatively accepted by sending them as a pdf to childcare@jim.titech.ac.jp.
  • If applicants will be relocating from distant locations, host faculty members and departments can submit the documents as representatives on behalf of the applicants. In this case, please write the representative’s name and contact information such as affiliation, email, and phone number on page 1. Please note that the applicant’s affiliation,signature is required for pages 1 and 6.
  • If the applicant’s representative attended the information session by the service provider on behalf of the applicant, this Application for Enrollment will be accepted tentatively and will be officially accepted later when the applicant attends the meeting.
